AVclub Akron:

Philip, along with Mike Anderson and Brent Veverka, co-founded AVclub Akron. The aim was to alleviate the effects of Covid-19 on the music community by providing (1) physical space for artists to perform, (2) pro audio/video services, and (3) live-streaming capabilities to reach audiences in new ways. AVclub Akron produced over 100 live-streamed concert events in the first year of the pandemic; below are some highlights:

Grammy-Nominated Dan Wilson’s Quartet

Co-Producer, Co-Videographer, Editor.

Guitar and drums shot live together in Akron, bass and piano shot together in Brooklyn; the quartet came together in the edit for Mack Avenue Records. Dan Wilson (g), James Johnson III (d), Glenn Zaleski (p), Marco Panascia (b).

SEER (live)

Director, Producer, Audio Engineer.

Matthew DeRubertis (bass) and Chris Coles (sax) explore meditative soundscapes with rich, flowing textures. This excerpt is taken from a live-streamed jazz fest event from the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Fest which AVclub Akron produced during the pandemic.

“Sideman Stories” with Dan Wilson & Friends

Co-producer, Videographer, Audio Engineer, Editor.

Grammy-nominated guitarist Dan Wilson developed the idea to interview jazz greats about what they look for in their bandmates — their ‘sidemen.’ Philip co-produced, shot, and edited this series which aired live on Dan’s website during the lockdown. Here is a teaser that Philip produced which features Benny Green, Joey DeFrancesco, Chris Potter, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, and Rene Marie.

ZOD1AC (live)

Producer, Live-Stream Director, Audio Engineer.

Lo-fi beat producer ZOD1AC did a live set of new material for his followers and AVclub Akron facilitated. This is an excerpt from that live stream, featuring all the lights, lasers, and fog that could be mustered.

Maggie Cox, Solo Bass Recital (live)

Director, Producer, Audio Engineer.

AVclub Akron helped facilitate Maggie’s solo bass recital for her performance degree when the pandemic shut down live events. This is an excerpt from that session.

Tri-C Jazz Fest, Songbook Watch Party (live)

Co-Producer, Live-Stream Director.

AVclub Akron provided the cameras and live stream capabilities for Dominick Farinacci’s ‘Songbook Watch Party.’ In this clip from the Valentine’s Day themed live-stream entitled ‘Love Notes,’ Philip led the live-stream, directed the camera ops, and controlled the switcher and gfx pop-ups live.

Spotted Owl Series: The Katy (live)

Co-Producer, Live-Stream Director.

In collaboration with The Spotted Owl and Bacardi, AVclub Akron produced a series of live music events from the empty bar during the pandemic. Head bartender Will Hollingsworth gave live cocktail tutorials over Zoom to ticket holders while the band took a break between sets. Philip led the live-stream, directed the camera ops, and controlled the switcher and gfx pop-ups live.
